Siberia covers most of the territory of Russia. The geographic area of Siberia is 9.8 million km² (about 57% of the territory of Russia). For comparison: Canada’s area is 9.9 million km².
The deepest lake on the planet is located in Siberia. This is the largest natural reservoir of fresh water, the surface area of which is equal to the area of the Netherlands. Moreover, the water in the lake is so clean that you can see the stones and other objects at a depth of 50 meters.
Tunguska meteorite. June 30, 1908 in the area of the Podkamennaya Tunguska River, which flows along the Central Siberian plateau, a meteorite fell. The power of the explosion is estimated at 40-50 megatons, which corresponds to the energy of the most powerful of the blown hydrogen bombs.
Vasyugan swamps are the largest marsh system in the Northern Hemisphere. The area of the marshes is 53 thousand km² (for comparison: the area of Switzerland is 41 thousand km²).
Beautiful world of permafrost. 65% of the territory of Russia – areas of permafrost. It is most widely distributed in Eastern Siberia. Under the conditions of the climate warming, the permafrost begins to break down, it melts, releasing methane resources from its cold depths and raising the sea level.
In Siberia, 4 of the 10 longest rivers in the world flow: the Ob, the Amur, the Lena and the Yenisei. But the Daldikan River in the Norilsk region is also noteworthy. Last September, the water in the river acquired a bright red color due to contaminated water from the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant.
The most favorite breed of dogs all over the world. Siberian Husky is one of the oldest and most popular breeds of dogs in the world. It has a friendly and calm, but at the same time a lively character, is adapted to great physical loads, perfectly suited as companion dogs, even for apartment maintenance. Lifespan: 12 to 14 years.
Our ancestors lived in Siberia. In 2008, in the Denisova cave in the Solononshensky district of the Altai Territory, a group of Russian researchers discovered the bone of the little finger. Then the scientists suggested that it was the remains of a Neanderthal man. However, careful genetic analysis showed that an unknown species of people was found. Little finger about 50 thousand years ago was on the girl’s hand. Its scientists called “Woman X”. According to the researchers, at least three species of man – Homo sapiens, Neanderthal and this type, called Denisovants, – could meet and enter into relations with each other somewhere in the south of Siberia.
Siberian Health. Indigenous Siberians are distinguished by strong health and remarkable strength. Strong immunity is facilitated by natural conditions and hardening – the Siberians have always been popular with walrus. Endurance Siberians amazes imagination. It is known that one man accidentally fell out of the train into a 45-degree frost. 7 km a resident of Bratsk in one t-shirt and slaps ran along the tracks to the nearest station.
